Rules and Regulations

All persons attending The NV Ball (spectators, competitors, officials, staff, guests, etc.) shall be bound by the rules and regulations of the National Dance Council of America (NDCA) and, by participating in this event, automatically become obligated to adhere to them.

REGISTRATION

  1. Professionals and Amateurs competing in the amateur/amateur and open single divisions at the Paragon Open must be registered with the NDCA for 2014 and provide valid proof of their 2014 registration at the event.
  2. Entry Deadline is July 10, 2014. All entries received after that date are subject to a $50.00 late fee. No Write-ins will be permitted at the event. Entries or changes received after July 15, 2014 will be accepted at the discretion of the organizers if space & time permit. Changes made at the competition, through no fault of the Organizers, will not qualify for teacher’s points or all-around winners.
  3. All entries must be complete and all fees paid before competitor numbers are issued and before competitors are allowed to dance. There will be $40.00 charge for all retuned checks in addition to any bank fees that may apply.
  4. Events with less than 3 entries may be cancelled or combined across age and/or gender divisions. Prize monies may be reduced in events with fewer than 3 entries.
  5. We reserve the right to cancel any Scholarship with less than 5 entries and to make payment vouchers in lieu of cash rewards.
  6. No entries will be refunded for changes/cancellations made after July 15, 2014 – changes and cancellations must be made prior to the deadline of the event.
  7. There will be a change fee for changes made the day of the event of $10.00
  8. Refunds for registration changes/cancellations will be issued within sixty (60) days following the competition.
  9. No refunds or exchanges will be made on plaques, trophies, general admission tickets, dance camp tickets, and/or gala tickets.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS

  1. Hotel reservation cancellation has to be done by July 15, 2014.
  2. Hotel reservations not cancelled by cancellation deadline will be billed to the studio or competitor and are not the responsibility of The NV Ball.
  3. Hotel reservations booked after July 15, 2014 are subject to additional room rates, in accordance with Encore guest room rates.

CONDUCT

  1. Competitors shall conduct themselves in a civil, sportsmanlike manner at all times while on the competition premises. The NV Ball reserves the right to disqualify any competitors acting in a less than respectful manner.
  2. The organizers reserve the right to reject entries from competitors who have previously violated rules of conduct at other NDCA events.
  3. Marks will be posted. Anyone removing posted marks or master scrutineer sheets without permission may be subject to disciplinary action.
  4. The Encore Las Vegas property will be treated with respect and care. Attendees and participants in The NV Ball will be responsible for any damage to the property.

LIABILITY & RELEASE

  1. Every person attending The NV Ball does so at his or her own risk and expressly and irrevocably waves any claim or claims against the NDCA, The NV Ball, its organizers, AZ Agency, employees and representatives arising from any loss, personal injury, death or damage associated with this event.
  2. This event may be photographed by video, photography or other method. All persons attending this event may be photographed and, by their presence, waive any claim related to the use of that photography and the rights of any copyright, privacy or publicity associated with said photography. The NV Ball and its organizers reserve all print, electronic and broadcast rights and reserve the right to use any and all photography taken at The NV Ball for future promotional purposes.
  3. Waivers for minors must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

COMPETITORS – GENERAL

  1. Competitors must be in the ballroom at least 30 minutes before their scheduled event and in the “on deck” area at least 3 heats prior to their scheduled heat. Events will not be delayed for latecomers. Additionally, the organizers reserve the right to modify the final schedule if necessary. In accordance with NDCA rules, events may commence up to 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time.
  2. All closed syllabus events will be invigilated using the current NDCA list of elements and restrictions. Penalties may be given without warning for any syllabus infractions.
  3. If in the opinion of the Organizers, a costume is deemed inappropriate, the Competitor will have the option of changing or withdrawing from the competition. The Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any competitor who fails to rectify a costume warning.
  4. Organizer Reserves the Right to Reduce Cash Awards by 50%

 If the minimum number of couples is not present, and in the Scholarship events, give vouchers instead of cash awards, if the minimum of couples is not present.
  5. Awards Vouchers will be given for payment of all cash awards, and the completed voucher must be submitted for payment of all cash awards. ALL VOUCHERS ARE TO BE PRESENTED FOR PAYMENT IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING YOUR EVENT. Completed voucher information is required to receive payment of cash awards.

COMPETITORS – PROAM

  1. Pre-Teen, Junior and Youth Pro/Am competitors may dance up one age level.
  2. Adult & Senior Pro/Am competitors may dance down one age level (but not into Youth).
  3. Pro/Am competitors may dance in three consecutive closed levels per style (ex – Bronze 2 
& Silver 1, not Bronze 2 & Silver 2), and two consecutive open levels.
  4. The Newcomer category is restricted to Pro/Am students who have never 
competed in any ballroom dance competition prior to the 2014 NV Ball. 
The Newcomer division is restricted to the bronze syllabus.
  5. Pro/Am competitors must enter an equal number of single dances in the same 
style in order to enter multi-dance events.
  6. Figures used in American-style Newcomer through Full Silver syllabus events are 
restricted to NDCA-approved figures, elements and restrictions. Figures used in American-style Gold syllabus events are restricted to the approved syllabi of member organizations of the NDCA and the official NDCA American-style syllabus.
  7. Figures used in International Newcomer through Full Gold syllabus events are restricted to NDCA-approved figures, elements and restrictions.
  8. Syllabus figure restrictions do not apply to Gold Star or Open events.
  9. Pre-Teen competitors are restricted to syllabus figures from approved syllabi of member organizations of the NDCA and the official NDCA syllabi.
  10. No continuity style will be allowed in the American Bronze levels.
  11. Costumes are permitted at any level for Junior, Youth, Adult and Senior Pro/Am 
competitors. Pre-Teen competitors must adhere to NDCA Pre-Teen costume requirements.

COMPETITORS – AMATEUR

  1. Amateur competitors must be registered with the NDCA for 2014 and provide valid proof of 2014 registration at the event.
  2. An amateur couple’s age classification eligibility is determined by:
    a. The age of the older partner for Pre-Teen, Junior, Youth and Adult classifications
    b. The age of the younger partner for Senior classifications.
  3. Pre-Teen, Junior and Youth amateur couples may dance up one age category.
  4. Senior amateur couples may dance down one age category.
  5. Amateur competitors may dance in three consecutive closed levels per style (ex – Bronze 
& Silver, not Pre-Bronze & Silver), and two consecutive open levels.
  6. Singles events are open to individual amateur Pre-Teen, Junior or Youth 
competitors. The Single competitor must be partnered by another amateur competitor aged eighteen years or younger. The age of the Single competitor shall determine the age level entered and only the Single will be judged.
  7. Figures used in American-style Pre-Bronze through Silver syllabus events are restricted to NDCA-approved figures, elements and restrictions. Figures used in American-style Gold syllabus events are restricted to the approved syllabi of member organizations of the NDCA and the official NDCA American-style syllabus.
  8. Figures used in International-style Pre-Bronze through Gold syllabus events are restricted to NDCA-approved figures, element and restrictions.
  9. Pre-Teen competitors are restricted to syllabus figures from approved syllabi of member organizations of the NDCA and the official NDCA syllabi.
  10. Costuming requirements are as follows: 

    a. NDCA costume requirements for Pre-Teen
is Syllabus dress for Pre-Bronze through Gold

    b. Either “Syllabus” dress or “Open Amateur” dress for Novice
    c. “Open Amateur” dress for Pre-Champ and above.
